The bad news awaits for the owners after they came back from their wedding. A day later, I saw Skippy limping and her hind leg was in an awkward position, my worst fear came true. The doctor suggested amputation without even the need to put a cast to see if the bones could join back.

Hence, once again Skippy went into the operation room and this time round it took a toll on her. Although she survived the operation, but she emerged with a tear-stained face and her expression screamed pain. She was sort of relieved to see me and she seek the usual consolation from me. Co-owner took a video of me consoling her (it was kindda hilarious actually) but I don't know how to upload it here via Iphone.

Anyway, after a few weeks of medication and rehab, we finally put Skippy back to stay with Scar. Once again, both hamsters cannot see eye-to-eye with each other but nice little Scar is more accomodating to his handicap comrade. Little Skip is fine now. Aye, one-leg Skipper!

The past three months have been almost quiet in this blog. That's because the owners were getting married. Yesterday was finally the big day. The hammies are happy to see us back home.

As the hammies are part of our lives, the owners wanted them to appear in the photos. Initially, the best choice was to choose Scar and Skippy for the photo-shoot. But somehow, Skippy is the type that went hysterical if she leaves her cage and Scar is just a home boy. So, we feared they would go bonkers during the photo-shoot. Thus, Herbie was selected (if only EG is here).

Well, the verdict? Being waken up in the middle of sleep, thrown into the small carrier that swayed badly (owner carried too much stuff thus kept knocking the carrier), being picked up while finally snoozing off and sent to flashes of lights, let's just say Herbie is really not a happy hammy. For the owners? Trying to smile while this little fella nibbled on the fingers was really tough. On top of that, Herbie purposely showed her bum to the camera and one can see clearly that she is not very happy. =D

Departure Of Scratch

We are sad to say Scratch boy boy departed from us on Sept 11. =( Found him passed on when I returned home at night.

My boy has been battling with serious warts growth. Though Scratch boy is rather weak due to his old age and sickness, he was rather active and would insist on coming out to have a walk around the room. His sudden passing is quite sad but at least he will not suffer anymore pain.

His 'furneral' was held on Sept 12. RIP Scratch. :(

There was a joke which we previously cracked on Scar, the white hammy we adopted. As he was quite young then, we have doubts over his gender. One day, a conversation went (pardon the coarse words used):-

Me: "He looks like he has no balls..." (holding Scar & checking his organs)
Co-owner: "Is boy. Maybe have not develop. Still young."
Me: "What if he is female?"
Co-owner (without hesistation): "Then we call him Scarlet."
Me: -___-

Co-owner's straight-forward reply is really priceless.

By now, Scar no longer has the scar on his nose and has evolved into a very handsome likeable boy. Co-owner currently likes him alot because this little one always lick co-owner's nose when he placed his face near the cage. And yes, he is confirmed a male despite his feminine face. =D

Hamnobyl

This was the first time that the Hamsty hammies' lives are disrupted. The owner's home underwent some minor renovation but the situation was appalling. No matter how their cages were covered, the dust & debris found its way in. Scratch's whose cage was situated on the top had his eyes affected by the dust. In a bid to save all the hammies, the owner quickly bundled them up and fled to co-owner's house for refuge. In the whole month of July, the hamsters spent their time in their makeshift cages while the whole Hamsty World shut down.

Now, the hamsters finally settled down back to their original houses. Could see that they were overjoyed as they return back to their home. It was sad that EG never made it back to his old mansion. But during his final days, we managed to give him back his ham-head hideout. The little one was so happy that he slumped half his body in and refused to move.

All is well now and Hamsty's blog is resuming its regular business. =D

A Farewell To Earl Grey

Our favourite boy passed on this morning. EG has been getting weaker as each day passes. Yesterday, I came home to a frail him sitting solemnly at one corner. Gave him food and he ate some. After patting his head, his cataract eyes seem to look at me (abeit sad) but he laid to one side and sleep.

This morning, I found him motionless under the beddings. It looks like Herbie has already done a pre-burial for him by covering his body with a mould of beddings. The anxious little squeak was jumping about when I removed his body and she was not pacified even when I gave her a new bowl of food.

EG's 'furneral' will be held tonight.

The Couple That Eat & Sleep Together

It has been a hell of 2 weeks coming since the relocation of the Hamsty. In the beginning, the hamsters were grumpy when they were downgraded to smaller cages (plus being deported) and then gloomy upon the realisation that this would be their fates (being abandoned). Skippy was super panicky as she is not used to travel. Scratch was the worst as he was being transported in a tin can (not enough tanks) and his face showed 'suicidal'. Scar on the other hand looked sad for the thought that he would go to a new owner again.

Fret not as the big hamster (Owner) also followed them to stay at the new location. So far, the disgruntled hammies have been protesting to the two owners every night because 1. Crampy space. 2. No wheels (except for Scar because the owner forgot to pack 4 more wheels).

However not all bad things happened. There are still good experiences deriving from this saga. Like how Skippy made herself comfortable in her new cage by creating a cozy bedroom with a curtain, and Scar defensively protecting his wheel (he refused to take turns to share the wheel with fellow hammies). The best part of this was the couple Herbie and Earl Grey. Back home as they were living in a mansion-like house, both of them never eat or sleep together since they each have their hideouts and food bowls. Now forced to a one-bedroom apartment, they have no choice but to eat and sleep together. I guess love blooms for them over this period. They are so loving together now.

Like the saying goes, the couple that eat and sleep together, stays together. =D

Today is the 'D' day for Skippy. After the whole week of soured relationships and refusal to eat her medicine, it has come to the point of no return. (~.~) The hamster knew what was coming and hid in her hideout bricking up the entrance and refused all call attempts to get her out.

After a week of medication and thyme tea, the bulge shrunk a third, but nonetheless, the base is still growing. After the vet's review, both of us decided it would be best to remove the whole ear. I did initially suggest to keep the ear intact but the vet mentioned that with residue left, the abscess will still grow back. So it's off with the ear.

Skippy recovered fast and thank goodness she woke up fast and so the damage to my pocket was lesser. The vet even gave us back a container with her ear in the preservative solution. =.= I think come next week I will bring that container back to the vet to dispose. Imagine looking at the floating ear inside. *faints*

The vet gave her a bowl of food too! I guessed they realised she is super panicky and traumatised. Right now at home, we transformed her cage to a 'hospital ward'. A ear gone, half her head shaved clean, came back to a home that has no more beddings, imagine how pissed Skippy is right now. Yeah, she's no longer in talking terms with me and I think I best leave her alone for the time being (except for Baytril time). =(

A New Kid Arrives

Co-owner was saying that his mum adopted three baby hamsters from a family who unintentionally let their hamsters breed. Shortly after the adoption, the family unbashfully pushed the parents to her as well (talking about responsibilities). With a sudden influx, co-owner suggested to take one into Hamsty.

It was supposed to be the female coming to our house, but the co-owner who doesn't know how to differentiate the gender of the hamster, brought the male one here instead. -.- The hamster who is now separated from his family is still sulking away in his cage. =.= He came with his face a little disfigured, and so I decided to name him as Scar. He is kind of pleasant and well behaved, quiet and reserved, so different from the male hamsters here. =D Hope he will blend in soon. Age wise - unknown, looks quite young to me.

Another Trip To The Vet

I for one never like to go to the vet. It means that something happened to my hamsters. :( And now the next victim is Skippy. We had a long history of having hamsters with warts/abscesses/tumors and whats not. We knew what is coming up when we found Skippy with a growing abscess on her ear.

I called up the vet for a surgery appointment which was rejected. The vet told us to bring Skippy down for a look. Skippy, of all the hamsters, has never been traumatised before. She has never been onto a hand of a stranger and never left home. So horror to her when she was put into the carrier and whisked off to the vet. At the clinic, a panicked Skippy behaved badly that her own owner couldn't even control her. To add to my woes, the vet dare not touch her for the fear Skippy would bite her. So I had to play 'catch' with a 'skippery' hamster in the constraint space. At the end of the consultation, the vet gave me the answer that I already anticipated: "Cut off her whole ear".

So in the mean time, the doctor gave medication for Skippy. As expected, Baytril is the medication. My internal monologue while standing there watching the vet typing away on her pc. "Great, how do I feed this panicky hamster with baytril everyday. What's worse is, her ear will still be a goner." This coming Sunday will be Skippy's last day for her ear if Baytril and thyme tea couldn't help remove the bulge. =(

Eversince Wiffy gave us a healthy mix of cereals for the hammies, we decided it would be best to switch from pet-shop purchased food to self-mix food. Apart from healthy-eating reason, it is also economical for us. We calculate our expenses (buying of their package food monthly) and found that the overall cost of mixing our own is cheaper. It is also viable when we have more than two hamsters as they keep the consumption moving fast.

A one-time bill came upon my gorcery shopping. The hamster food cost amounts to 2/3rd of the bill, but the co-owner reminded that this will last until end of this year or maybe more. True enough, as I start mixing all the stuff, the amount of food came up tremendously alot.

A Day In Herbie's Household

Yes, it's Herbie's household now. It's no longer Earl Grey's mansion. The henpecked husband gave Herbie the rights to his left wing while he retains his original small humble squatter. Just see how this mistress of the house guards her home. She seals off one of the hideout exits while she stands in front of the other, fending off trepassers (EG).

This was what happened a few months back, the start of co-habitation between Earl Grey and Herbie. At the owner's initiative, Herbie was sent packing to stay with EG at his mansion house. We felt that EG has been lonely all this while as a bachelor without a mate, so we sent Herbie to stay with him.

Guess EG would rather do without the companion to have more freedom? =D

Herbie is afraid of heights. =) Whenever we bring her out onto our palms, she will claw and cling onto every bits of our skin and hangs for her dear life. Just look at the close up photo of her on my palm. Her nails extended, and her paws open wide as if to laminate herself on my hand.

The best part? The look on her face is priceless. You can definitely see that she's scared. =D Haha, I have so many hamsters and none of them cling onto us like her. The sensation is different. Other hams will just walk smoothly on our palm, but with Herbie, we can feel the drag on her paws. It's so funny. (^.^)v

One fine day while Earl Grey was doing his routine walk in Hamsty Avenue, something caught his attention from afar. He went nearer to explore and saw Herbie behind her cage. The two of them stood together with the grill in between them. No squeaks. The owner feared a fight may start and swooped EG back home.

However, upon thinking back what happened, the owner decided to let both of them out for their first date. Surprisingly, the first date went well.

Of Different Shades Of Grey

So now that Herbie finally turns grey, we now have 3 grey hamsters in the house. Except for Scratch who is so beautifully white, the 3 of them are all in different shades of grey. Looking at photos of them, as the full-time owner, I am still able to differentiate who is who compared to the co-owner. Here are their photos that were jumbled up in my computer and both owners played the 'Guess Who Is This' game.

Skippy

Skippy is a name well-suited her! She is very lively and sociable. As can see, she is the tiniest of them greys. She also have a mischievious look. (^^)v I think it's gotta do with that big eyes and stubby nose of hers that give her the naughty face. =p On the contrary, Skippy is getting a brighter coat of fur. Her fur is of light brownish white and lighter shades of grey.

Earl Grey

We call him Big Grey because of his size. =) At his age, he is still maintaining his large frame though he lost abit of weight after passing the 2yr old mark. He has a gentle nature but will give a 'pissed' look if provoked. =.= Earl Grey has a darker shade of grey and he has some brownish tone mixed into his grey fur. The brown fur however is much darker and opaque compared to Skippy's. EG too has large eyes but he has a shorter nose.

Herbie

She has big butt! =D And I think her fur coat further makes it look bigger! Herbie's lower half of fur is of a whiter shade of grey. It's like someone accidentally sprayed a dash of paint over her lower half. Herbie is also one chubby hamster. I think in no time she will be of same size as EG. Currently her fur is more of white and grey, and a little tint of brown on her sides. It is very easy to identify her in photos because she is much smaller eyed and she has sharper face compared to the other 2.

Of late, whenever Earl Grey comes to his food bowl during dinner time, the owner will purposely pick him up when his head dips into his bowl. Of course, this makes the hamster very mad. But Earl Grey is naturally a nice hammie hammie, so he only shows his grumpy face.

This little fella looked horrendously ratty when he was young. His is a story of an ugly duckling turned Prince Charming. He became the trademark of 'The Hermie Face', a term the owners used to describe a chubby cute face of a hamster. He won the HH's Hamster Of The Month & Xmas Siggy awards.

Fatty aka Stiggy (2006~2008)
Stiggy is an example of a lazy hamster. This photo has been named as 'What A Lazy Hammie' displaying how a hamster could be cute while lazing around. It is the fav. photo of the owner despite being amateurly taken.

Mochi (2008~2009)
Having unique features give a hamster an edge. Acting cute straight away brings him an accolade. This photo dubbed as 'The Husky' becomes the co-owner's favourite and was the wallpaper of the co-owner's PC after this shot.

Baby Mott aka Mogi (2008~2010)
Another hamster with pleasant features. She is one of the most photogenic hamsters in Hamsty and most of her photos are always pleasantly cute and timeless classics.

Whitehead (2006~2008)
Despite having a tilted head, it didn't stop him from getting cuter each day. Although he didn't look as cute as his same batch brother Stubby, Whitehead managed to become good looking as he grew older.
He is currently the avatar for the owner's Twitter profile.

Cherry (2008~2010)
She is the testimony that a common and smaller eyed hammie can be just as cute. As one of the most photogenic hammie in Hamsty, her photos also always garnered the 'so cute' comments.

It's not easy to get into this chart with our quirky requirements. In time to come, we hope to find new hopefuls for next 3 slots. Hmmm, I wonder are there hamster owners out there who do this as well? =p

No New-comers On The Bed!

Herbie very fast became good friends with the co-owner. Seeing that I keep playing with Skippy on the bed, he too decided to let Herbie out on the bed.

So this little girl came out to play and not only left alot of litters (sunflower seed shells) because the co-owner used that as a bait to entice her, but also a trail of poops! ON THE BED!!! Not only that. After some time, this fella suddenly stop short and gave an urgent look on her face. SHE PEED ON MY BED!!! Co-owner kept giggling 'so cute so cute' on how she looked like when she peed while I shot to the roof. I JUST CHANGED THE BEDSHEETS!!!

That's it, no new-comers on the bed until they are toilet-trained... -.-"

Introducing Herbie

Let's talk about the newest hammie that arrived via 'Happy Meal' box!

While we were touring in the herb garden during our vacation, I exclaimed to co-owner that we need to look for 'Herbie'. Co-owner thought I was looking for some herb plants but I was thinking about the name of our future hamster. Thus the name.

So one casual day while co-owner was ordering some drinks, as usual I wondered to the petshop panel of small animals opposite the drink stall, not having any intentions to have any new hamsters. Suddenly, this little fella came up and stood in front of me. It was in the Sapphire WW section but its fur coat was awkwardly different. So after a round of hesitation, this hammie came home with us. =)

While I was a little disappointed that Herbie is not a male, she wasn't too shy a hammie and within 3 days, she was like best of friends with us. So now, we have 2 females and 2 males hamsters in the house. Poor Skippy, we could sense some jealousy there.

I do hope Herbie's fur coat won't change because I really like that she got the white fur painted over half her body. It's probably the fur changing period but right now, we will take more photo of her, lest one day she turned 'grey'.

Upgradings/Inheritance

Upon the passing of Kopi, we hereby transfer the ownership of his house to his blood brother Earl Grey. Earl Grey shall inherit the brother's childhood home while still retaining his own private property.

And so, today Hamsty World lauched the largest home in Hamsty history. Earl Grey really is a lucky ham eh?

Not quite though. When we first put Earl Grey in the house, he moved around to explore and proceed to sleep in one of the hideouts. But after a while when we returned, he's back to his own home. -.-" Hours later, he's back into his squeezy little hamhead, sleeping as usual. -__-'

Today is exactly Earl Grey's birthday! He was born on the 6th Nov 2008. This was what I found out when I adopted him through Retardy's MIL. His previous owner told her EG's birthdate and hence we at least have his record right. Happy 2yrs old Birthday '56grams'! May you still continue to be chubby and energetic.

So today, we gave him a birthday photoshoot with his birthday cake. And since I had been planning for today, I brought some scrapbook materials and created a scrap for him using today's photos.

Of cos' photoshooting is not a pleasant experience for a hammie. You can know it by seeing his expression during the photoshoot NG shot. And cheesecake doesn't sound a yummy treat for him. After a few nibs, he totally shunned the cake. -.-"

While printing his photo, Skippy got a sniff of the cake which was placed just outside her cage and so she came out to take her share. We will give Scratch later in the evening since he is still snoozing away.

September Is A Sad Month, October Without The Hams

Close friends will know that September was a terrible month for the Hamsty owners as we consecutively lost two of our precious hammies Cherry and Kopi. Not to mention, I was quite upset because Cherry died in the vet clinic and subsequently not long later, Kopi too decided to leave this world. It came to the point that I didn't feel like writing their deaths here. This blog, though filled with lots of comical incidents about the hams, it was also filled with many death reports over the years, considering how many generations and numbers of hamsters we had. But alas, a tribute to each ham is a must.

Cherry died on 16th Sept 2010 around 7.45pm. She had suffered alot and because of her will to survive was strong, she hung her life for days. That day, I finally found a very good vet at AMK and I rushed Cherry there, but it was too late. The Animal Clinic was really sympathic and the vet allowed me to the operation room which previous clinic I visited never did. I saw Cherry on the oxygen mask and they were furiously giving her oxygen. By around 7.30pm, the vet asked us to have our dinner, yet 15mins later, they called me up anxiously back and instead of good news, I went back to collect Cherry's body.

Kopi who also died abruptly on September. I came home that night on 30th Sept and saw Kopi inside his hideout like he always did when he sleeps. Alarm bells raised when he didn't respond to my call. Looking at the stiffness of his body, he would have passed on earlier. We didn't expect him to go just like that cos' he was up and running energetically everyday without fail until that day.

And so, at least 2 of my weaker hammies are in peace at Sunflower Valley. Then came October, a month that we would go for a long vacation. Initially we thought of sending the balance 3 kids to others who could help care during our absence but I decided that they would be fine on their own. It's rather funny that everyday during our trip we kept thinking of these little ones, and till the point I told co-owner, next time we fixed a webcam in front of their homes. =) So that we could see them while we are away. =D Well, we came home in time for Scratch because he had dried up his water bottles and also in time for Earl Grey to fill his tummy because he fully polished up the whole stick of food! Well, Skippy on the other hand suddenly lost memory and the whole night she gave a puzzle look at me not knowing who I was. -.- When she finally recalled, she gave me a nib. -.-"

Time flies and it's November. How fast could it get, and yes, we are in time to celebrate Earl Grey's 2yrs old birthday this coming Sat. Right on the spot 6th Nov! Yesterday night, this bugger decided to have his fun and he broke out of his house and escaped. Near midnight, he finally showed his face and we traced this little fella before catching him to the 'Torture Chamber'. I was pleasantly surprised EG headed back into my room on his own accord. Thanks for keeping us awake knowing that we had to work the next day!

So much for the Hamsty Playground Opening Ceremony! Yesterday, the Hamsty Avenue opened back the communal playpen and we even invited 2 guests-of-honor, Mario and Scrump to attend the ceremony. But today, the playpen yet again closed down until further notice! -.-"

Scratch hiding away, refusing to let anyone see his face

What a joke! I totally forgotten Earl Grey was inside the playpen, hiding inside the hideout and I happily put Scratch in. Scratch, who loves the playpen alot was happy it was finally his turn and he started exploring while I returned back to my computer. Co-owner came in and heard much scruffling, and in all horror, we saw them two rumbling about. By then it was too late. Scratch suffered a huge tear on his left face and was terribly traumatised. =c

Don't look at Earl as a friendly hammie, he's very nice to human but he can be very aggressive to his own kind (look how he bullied Kopi last time). Scratch on the other hand, though looks fierce and aggressive, is actually a very soft ham. He is those obedient type that will keep quiet. That's why he didn't even squeak for help. ;(

Hamsty Owner's Hoards

Apart from ~~collecting~~ rearing hamsters, the Hamsty owner also likes to collect hamster related stuff. Like the hammies, I too likes to hoard. (^.^) So yesterday when I passed by the figurines shop, I suddenly had the urge to go in and take a look to see if they have any new input of the hamster figurine that I missed previously. Lo behold! They had! I had been looking for it since many years. The last time they had on display, I hesitated and it was gone. This time round, it came as a set with other animals and I bought it despite I don't need the rest.

This current one has the walnut as food. The previous one was sunflower seed and it was so cute. Oh well, at least I have it. Too much bluetack though.

Around this month, our local 7-11 convenience store also sold these cute little Zhu-Zhu hamsters figurines. It's like gachapon, there are 18 designs but I decided 4 is enough and I'm lucky to select different ones each time. =D

Apart from this, a little showcase of my hamster-related hoards.

The Sylvanian Hamster Family dolls. This reminds me of the Chiko/Naughty generations of hammies. This was brought during the Hamsty era as a symbol of the Hamsty generations.

Hamster stickers and scrub-ons. These manga-likes stickers are really cute and so difficult to find. I still refuse to use them. =D

Hamster tissues. I stumbled upon them in Daiso ($2 cheap shop). It has been in my stash for many years. Co-owner kept on exclaiming: "Use them already, it's just tissues for godsake!" But the whole pack is still unopened as of now. =p

Ooh, and not forgetting the books I have about hamsters. I love to read and like the hammies, I'm curious too. -__-"

Our Scratch boy is fine. Thanks everyone for the concern. This is one mystery that we are unable to solve. We went through his body for checks - no physical wounds, no bladder infections. And he never bleeds at all. He's back to his usual self but alot glum now because he was barred from the playpen and we officially close the playground until future notice.

In the meantime, he is doing what he does best. ZZzzzzz.

Ringo chan is the next hamster to pass on to Sunflower Valley. Being the oldest after Hermie, she was brought in during the Retardy's generation. She is 3 months shy of being 2yrs old.

We found Ringo passed on yesterday nite during their feeding time. When we saw her bowl was still full with the previous day's leftover, we had a bad feeling about it. She did not come out from her hideout which usually she would be the first to dash out when she hears food. Co-owner lifted up the hideout and found her body. Like her normal sleeping position, she was in the tummy side up. We presumed she died in her sleep.

RIP my little greedy one. You will be dearly missed.

Yesterday, we met near the petstore and the co-owner insisted on getting a new ham. This grey motted WW practically caught his eyes. The panel was left open by the store assistant who was serving another customer, and when co-owner was looking around, he found this little fella. No assistants were free to help us so the co-owner decided to D-I-Y and ham-napped the hammie! (oO) He removed the communal wheel (other hammies were protesting as their wheel is gone!), and used it to capture that poor fella. Finally one personnel came over and help us. She said it was a female hammie to the delight of co-owner.

And so, the co-owner happily came back with this new hammie whom he named under his care as Skippy. Well, the name fits her cos' she is really cheerful and full of life. We are intrigued by her looks, cos' she looked like a robo with big eyes and on her right eye, she got that distinct robo eyebrow. Haha. Welcome to Hamsty!

Missing Baby Mott

Another sad week for us here as Baby Mott too passed on. Without reasons and at such a young age, our Baby Mott died. She is only around 1yr 6mths.

Baby Mott passed away on Friday 12th March at 3.46am. On Thursday night I found her lying in one corner of her cage and her body contorted in an awkward position. When I was about to go nearer, she suddenly went into a seizure and started tweaking in pain. I brought her to bed with me and stayed with her, keeping her warm and stroking her. It probably extended the time of her life abit. I sort of dozed off but suddenly at 3.30am, Baby Mott gave a very loud shriek and struggled hard. Her shriek lasted long and pain before she took a deep breath and lost her soul. :(

I really do not understand why we lost her. The other day both of us are happily playing and now she's gone. It was such a sad night for me to witness all this. Lucky co-owner wasn't around or he would not be able to take it to see his favourite hammie passed on.

A Series Of Unfortunate Events

It's a double whammy for us on Saturday as we sent two hammies to rest. On the same day, we had to dig two graves. Not really a pleasant day.

We found Rubie motionless on Saturday evening. Without any reasons, she passed on. We went down and had her buried. After that, we had our dinner and went home. It was almost 7pm plus, and time to feed our hammies. Hermie came out and when co-owner put the food on his bowl, he slumped over as usual to choose his selection. Little did we know....

Hermie died on the spot, body slump over the bowl, eyes open. We thought he was still choosing his food, but on closer look, he was no longer breathing. A depressive co-owner carried his body which was still warm, looked at me and said: "He still look so cute when he died." =.="

And so, nightfall near midnight, we were down at the park digging yet another grave beside Rubie.

What a sad day it was. We lost our little active Rubie and our cute Hermie. =(

Hamlet's Funeral

As the chimes rang, Hamlet was gone. An instinct asked me to take a look at Hamlet. We found her not moving. Yesterday late night, while co-owner was feeding her, we noticed she was terribly weak. From the start of this week, there was already an awful strench emitting from her body. I have been keeping her cage clean with constant change of bedding, but it doesn't help. Hamlet finally succumbed to her tumors and passed on peacefully today.

We don't post photos of our hammies' burial up to now. But for Hamlet, I think we do need to keep some posted. She has been a favourite among some readers here, and her time with us brought us much joy. She is probably 2yrs 2mths by now.

It's our dry season, Hamlet's burial was not easy due to the harden ground. This is our usual way of burial. Do not read from here on if you can't stomach the photos.

The second generation of hammies finally being documented on book. This time, the book is larger than the previous Hamsty family book. Being 12x12, I have more space and more pictures to put in compared to the previous 8x8 one. Hmmm, I still haven't put up Speedy's one and only photo on the last page of the first book. -.-

Anyway, I'm glad I have completed it. To think the whole album kit was left in dust for about a year. But it was kind of a well-awaited one to me. I have a better and wide collection of photos than before as co-owner finally improves his photography skills. Better, clearer and colorful photos to showcase.

I was at Fish & Co one day for lunch. Nothing unusual.... Until the waiter asked me what type of tea do I want. For the moment, my tongue suddenly slurred and I was having a hard time trying to pronouce Earl Grey Tea. The waiter looked at me with the facial expression -> What the heck with this woman! Yes it's simple English, but I can no longer associate Earl Grey as a form of tea cos' everyday I have been calling Earl Grey as a hamster. (=.=)

Moral of the story? Shouldn't name my hamsters based on food stuff. It will get more complicated when ordering things. :D

This is old news, but nonetheless, we are still in the very happy mood that Hermie won the HH's 2009 Christmas Siggy Contest! The owner and Hermie are arguing who is the one deserving the credits (the debate goes on). Anyway, to be fair, co-owner bought treats for all the hams to celebrate. *throws Hermie up in the air*

Well, there is no secret to create this banner. This time round we wanted it to have a dream-like fantasy theme compared to 2008 direct shot. If you are interested to know how to create the banner, this is it. (Sorry, cos' I did not save the original psd file, so I create another piece. Quality varies alot.)

This is how we do it!

First - Find a unwilling ham. :E

We used Nikon D60, Lens AF-SDX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR.

Lastly - We used Adobe Photoshop CS2 for the banner edit. Here's the steps.

The Hamsty has been quiet since the start of Christmas to the New Year. All hammies slept thru' New Year Day. -.-" I'm not sure why, but it's probably gotta do with the shorter daylight hours and longer dark nights.

This sounds too good to be true to the owners because at night, they slept thru' with us and no hams run the wheels (no noise pollution!). We get better quality sleep as well. :E

A New Friend Arrives!

Just now dad came home excitedly called me out to see something in the living room. I went out and saw him grabbing my empty hamster cage around and waved me to the table. An excited feeling arise as I thought he would take out a hamster from the plastic bag. My happiness was short-lived as he brought out one green living thing. Behold, a bird! Hmmmm....

We did not have any bird in the house since B.I.R.D passed on. So approval given by Hamsty to rent out the empty cage to accomodate this little fella and finally the bird toy which I previously bought for B.I.R.D was put to use (B.I.R.D previously have phobia of that bell toy).

My Spritez has passed over the rainbow bridge today. She was still breathing in the morning but when I came home, she was gone. We have braced ourselves for this coming since we saw the lump. However, little Spritez as bubbly as ever, showed no signs of giving up and happily continued her daily routine. Saturday, we took her xmas photoshoot and she was still actively running around and munching her treats. But yesterday night I found her lying quietly in one corner of her cage, refusing to come for her dinner she usually pounced on. I gave her the favourite pats and rubs, this time round she shunned away and moved into an inner corner and never came out. This morning she peered out to me when I looked at her and went back to sleep. She never woke up again.
